TWSE hosted the Taiwan Investment Conference with Masterlink Securities and received warm response from investors
The “A Post-Pandemic World: Taiwan Market Outlook” online investment conference jointly organized by the Taiwan Stock Exchange (TWSE) and Masterlink Securities was successfully completed on June 12. The one-week online conference attracted 30 domestic and Asian institutional investors and 23 Taiwan listed companies for a total of 100 meetings.
During the event, the TWSE introduced the strength and depth of Taiwan's capital market through a keynote speech, especially on the corporate governance topic that is of key interest to international investors. Rebecca Chen, Senior Executive Vice President of the TWSE, pointed out that: “Facing the new coronavirus pandemic, the Taiwan government responded quickly and successfully prevented the spread of the disease; enterprises also carried out contingency plans in a timely manner to maintain the stability of the Taiwan market.”
Chen added: “The TWSE has been making improvements in the efficiency of the capital market, including continuous trading this past March and intraday odd lot trading launching in October. In addition, the corporate governance of our listed companies has progressed meaningfully. The new Corporate Governance Roadmap drives the change for even greater transparency and stakeholder engagement.”
Evelyn Pan, Senior Manager of the TWSE, presented the crucial points that the Taiwan market was steady during the pandemic, as well as the new measurements of the market to the institutional investors. Ms. Pan said, the TWSE followed its inclusive Contingency and BCP, started off-site work and kept assisting all market participants to get through the period in the early stage. Therefore, the Taiwan capital market operates as usual. The TWSE will continue to synergize its approaches to interacting with institutional investors and providing enhanced services.
Yu-san Huang from Corporate Governance Department of the TWSE introduced recent corporate governance development in Taiwan. The FSC, the financial regulator, announced the New Corporate Governance Roadmap in 2018, enhancing the board function, strengthening information disclosure and promoting shareholder participation. In addition, the results of the 6th Corporate Governance Evaluation were announced in April. The evaluation has gradually led the enterprises to adopt the best corporate governance practices through the meaning of indicators and the promotion of relevant laws and regulations.
The Taiwan Stock Exchange has spared no effort in promoting Taiwan high-quality listed companies and attracting foreign investment funds. Facing the challenge of the new coronavirus pandemic, the TWSE uses the digital cloud to break through the in-person barrier and allow investors and listed companies to keep on communicating on air. Next, the Taiwan Stock Exchange will continue to arrange promotional investment events and introduce Taiwan's industrial prospects and advantages. The competitiveness of listed companies in various aspects was also highlighted with the goal of attracting more funds to invest in Taiwan's stock market and enhance the economic growth momentum.
