Taiwan shares success in ESG disclosure with Asian exchanges

Taiwan Depository & Clearing Corporation (the “TDCC”), a subsidiary of the Taiwan Stock Exchange (the “TWSE”), is invited by AOSEF (Asian and Oceanian Stock Exchanges Federation) to share its achievements in ESG disclosure through an online seminar. The session received strong interest, with more than 40 participants from 14 AOSEF member exchanges joining the session. The sharing came as ESG investing continues to grow exponentially and as more investors and corporate issuers around the world leverage ESG-related data to generate insights into investment decision-making. Taiwan’s endeavor to promote ESG has been recognized internationally, and we are pleased to share our experience with peer exchanges.

With ESG playing an increasingly important role in the local stock market, the TDCC launched the ESG Dashboard on TDCC’s investor relations platform (“IR platform”) in June 2020. The ESG Dashboard incorporates ESG ratings by globally trusted rating agencies, including FTSE Russell, ISS ESG, MSCI, and Sustainalytics, and serves as a one-stop access for ESG information of TWSE-listed and TPEx-listed companies.

The online seminar titled “Embed ESG into Market Infrastructure - A Case Study of Taiwan TDCC” was held by the AOSEF sustainability study group on 28 Oct., 2021. Mr. Chu, TDCC product manager for ESG investment solutions, introduced the audience to the ESG Dashboard along with other ESG-centric services provided on the IR platform. Currently, corporate issuers, institutional and retail investors may access ESG reports for the top 400 Taiwanese listed companies, as well as proxy reports for approximately 800 listed companies on the IR platform free of charge. All the elements play essential roles in investors' decision making processes, and demonstrate the continuous effort of encouraging institutional investors and issuing companies in Taiwan to place importance on ESG issues.

Earlier in late September, the TDCC also shared the ESG Dashboard and its IR platform at the Taiwan Investment Summit hosted by Hong Kong-based financial magazine the Asset.
