TWSE Chairman’s interview with WFE: Transformation in motion
The TWSE Chairman, Mr. Jan-yau Hsu, was interviewed by the WFE (“the World Federation of Exchanges”) in January 2022, sharing his vision on how to further advance the TWSE by accomplishing the following goals.
Advocate for ESG and sustainable finance
With TWSE diligence, Taiwan regulatory authority and market participants, Taiwan’s ESG performance ranks the highest in Asia and across global emerging markets.
Looking ahead to the future, the TWSE will continue to advocate that intermediaries issue green financial products and sustainable investment products, urge institutional investors to drive responsible investments, and guide companies to prioritize sustainable transition and ESG disclosure.
Enhance financial risk education for new retail investors
Outstanding listed companies’ revenues and new measures such as continuous trading, intraday odd lot trading, and market making mechanisms have pushed Taiwan market capitalization and trading volume to record highs and have attracted a great number of new retail investors, especially among the younger population.
With a whole new generation of investors joining the market, the TWSE has the objective to strengthen investors’ financial knowledge and risk awareness plus take every precaution to monitor market behavior and prevent fraud or misconduct.
Support Innovative Industries
Startups seek to raise funding from capital markets during the pandemic. To enable these firms to better access the Taiwan capital market, the TWSE established the Taiwan Innovation Board in mid-2021. In 2022, the TWSE remains committed to satisfying the demands of an ever-evolving market, while simultaneously nurturing tomorrow’s rising stars.
Steadfast Collaboration with Exchange Industry Peers
Although the pandemic has altered the ways in which exchanges interact with one another, what remains unchanged is the necessity for interconnectedness and collaboration. In the past two years, the TWSE has engaged in building fresh connections, as well as maintained close ties with regional exchanges through video conferences and regular correspondence.
In 2022, the TWSE will advance active dialogue with our industry peers, explore opportunities for significant cooperation, and work towards effecting meaningful and positive change for Taiwan and partnering markets.
