The TWSE discussed net zero transformation with TCX and NCKU
The Taiwan Stock Exchange Corporation, together with the Taiwan Carbon Solution Exchange and National Cheng Kung University, held a forum on “How Enterprises Face the Great Future of Net Zero Transformation” on April 19. Domestic industry and academia experts were invited to give speeches at National Cheng Kung University to analyze the development trend of net zero carbon emission and the derived circular economy business opportunities. More than 200 entrepreneurs and young students participated in the forum, and the response was very enthusiastic.
The Net Zero Carbon Emission Forum is a prelude to the cooperation among the TWSE, the Taiwan Carbon Solution Exchange and National Cheng Kung University. The TWSE representative stated in his speech that in order to assist enterprises in achieving net zero transformation, the TWSE, as an the most of the capital market and in compliance with the regulatory authority’s promotion of the sustainable development policy, integrates stakeholders such as securities peripheral units, listed companies, investors, intermediaries, other market participants, and academic institutions/NGO to jointly construct an ESG sustainable ecosystem. This will provide a more aggressive net zero governance strategy for enterprises, through eight specific action plans. These include the establishment of an integrated ESG information platform, promotion of ESG evaluation, encouragement of diversified ESG product development, assistance to enterprises in carbon inventory and disclosure, talent cultivation, and establishment of a carbon solution trading platform. The aim of these plans is to help enterprises reduce carbon emissions, promote the development of relevant talents, drive green circular economy, and implement sustainable development.
In his speech, Liang-Ming Huang, Director of the Innovation Headquarters, National Cheng Kung University mentioned that the purpose of organizing such net zero emission forums and courses is to provide services and assistance to enterprises in the field of net zero carbon emission. Director Huang stated that net zero carbon emission is not only the prestigious platform at the moment, but also a new life movement for the whole nation. Basically, net zero carbon emission can be divided into four stages, including carbon inventory, energy-saving and carbon reduction diagnosis, introduction of advanced technologies, and investment in the R&D of immature but promising future technologies. At present, many institutions are performing the stage one carbon inventory, but there are not many platforms that can provide reduction target setting and reduction strategy implementation services for subsequent stages. National Cheng Kung University has built a large technical capacity and can definitely contribute to the net zero transformation of enterprises.
The TWSE stated that it will launch a second forum in the second half of the year, with “Key Net Zero Technologies” as the theme. It will invite heavyweight lecturers from the industry, academia and research community to give speeches at the forum to share their respective experiences on key net zero technologies, and jointly start the application era of innovative technologies. In addition, we will offer a 10-day course, divided into the two categories of international standard specifications and greenhouse gas management, and net zero technology and carbon reduction design. There will be a total of seven courses to be held, with an expectation to cultivate Taiwan’s net zero carbon emission talents.
The advocacy video of this forum will be placed in the “Corporate Governance Advocacy_TWSE WebPro 3.0 Audiovisual Communication Network” section and the “ESG InfoHub Sustainability Course” page for the browsing of more advanced enterprises, in order to expand educational resources and popularize sustainable knowledge.
