About the TWSE
Taiwan Stock Exchange released 2023 Sustainability Report, and realized Carbon Neutrality Goal for the first time.
The TWSE released the 2023 Sustainability Report in Chinese and passed BSI carbon neutrality verification, becoming the world's first exchange to meet the ISO 14068-1 standard, demonstrating its strong commitment to net-zero carbon emissions and leadership in sustainable development.
Since 2018, the TWSE has been publishing its annual Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Report, and renamed it as the Sustainability Report from 2021. This newly released report covers the TWSE and its subsidiaries for the period from January 1, 2023, to December 31, 2023. It is prepared in accordance with the GRI standards and SASB, along with more deeply integrating TCFD and IFRS S2 climate-related disclosures. The report content has been assured by certified public accountants (CPAs). For greenhouse gas emissions, the combined Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions data of the TWSE and its subsidiaries has been third-party assured or certified. The standalone data of the TWSE has also passed verification by BSI according to the ISO 14064-1 greenhouse gas inventory standard, ensuring the reliability of the inventory information.
In this report, the TWSE focuses on “Sustainable Market” and “Sustainable Responsibility,” showcasing the results of strengthening the stability of the securities market, innovative instruments and mechanisms, international cooperation, plus fulfilling responsibilities in green operations, integrity governance, and social inclusion.
Environmentally, the main office area uses 100% green electricity, and the First Information Center has installed solar panels/energy storage equipment, increasing the renewable energy ratio. Additionally, energy efficiency in information centers has been enhanced, 100% of office/warehouse lighting has been changed to LED, and paper usage has been reduced, among other energy-saving and carbon-reducing measures, successfully lowering greenhouse gas emissions. The remaining emissions have been offset through high-quality carbon credits issued by the international carbon credit certification organization, Gold Standard, achieving carbon neutrality goal.
Socially, the exchange has built diverse information platforms, implemented inclusive finance, and invested over NTD250 million in social welfare and cultural activities. In terms of governance, it has elevated the level of the Sustainability Development Committee, shortened the intra-day odd-lot market information disclosure interval to five seconds, and signed the declaration to promote IFRS sustainability disclosure standards at COP28. Additionally, the TWSE has responded to 15 of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with concrete actions to promote sustainable development.
Achieving carbon neutrality is a significant milestone for the TWSE on its path to sustainable development. In the future, it will continue to focus on ESG and net-zero goals, working hand in hand with various sectors to strive for a sustainable future. In response to paperless initiatives, this report has been published electronically and is available on the TWSE's official website.
