TWSE launches the "Sustainable Report Assistance Function" to help listed companies improve the transparency of sustainability information in the capital market.

In line with the promotional measures in “Improving Sustainable Information Disclosure” and “Promoting Digitization” in the “Sustainable Development Action Plans for TWSE and TPEx Listed Companies (2023)” released by the Financial Supervisory Commission, all TWSE- and TPEx-listed companies are required to prepare and file sustainability reports from this year (2025) onwards. The TWSE has launched the “Auxiliary Function for Sustainability Report Production” on the ESG digital platform to establish a reference framework by referring to GRI Standards and practical disclosure situations, as well as combining the sustainability information already reported by listed companies to assist them in preparing sustainability reports, so as to enhance the overall transparency of ESG information in the capital market.

The TWSE stated that since it started promoting the preparation of the sustainability report (formerly known as the corporate social responsibility report) by listed companies in 2014, there were 722 that issued their 2023 sustainability reports as of the end of 2024, which accounted for over 70% reporting this. The TWSE has launched an auxiliary function for sustainability report production on the ESG Digital Platform to further enhance disclosure quality; it also provides multiple resources such as “GRI Standards and Samples,” “Sustainability Report Working Sheet and Samples,” and “Guidelines and Disclosure Samples for Major Topics in the Sustainability Report” for companies’ reference. The respective explanations are as follows:

  1. GRI Standards and Samples: To assist companies in complying with Article 3 of the “Rules Governing the Preparation and Filing of Sustainability Reports by TWSE Listed Companies” and by referring to the GRI Standards published by the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) for sustainability report preparation, the TWSE has consolidated the contents of the GRI Standards and provided samples for each standard.
  2. Sustainability Report Working Sheet and Samples: This provides the work sheet and samples together with ESG indicator information reported by listed companies so as to assist companies in improving compliance efficiency and reducing operating costs.
  3. Guidelines and Disclosure Samples for Major Topics in the Sustainability Report: This assists listed companies in identifying major sustainability topics, strengthening corporate sustainability issue management, effectively identifying, evaluating, and reporting the significant impacts of their operations on the economy, environment, and people (including their human rights), and then disclosing such impacts in the Sustainability Report.

The TWSE reminds listed companies to complete the preparation and filing of their 2024 sustainability reports by the end of August. Before using the auxiliary function for sustainability report production on the ESG digital platform, listed companies should first understand the relevant regulations for preparing the report, and handle tasks such as identifying stakeholders, analyzing major topics, and collecting sustainability related data.

The improvement of both ESG information disclosure and sustainability report quality will contribute to the establishment of a sustainable governance culture of the capital market. In the future, the TWSE will gradually expand its review of sustainability reports of listed companies, and continue to advocate and promote digital development.
