2025 awards ceremony for the list of institutions with better stewardship disclosure concludes successfully

The Taiwan Stock Exchange Corporation (TWSE) held the 2025 Awards Ceremony for the List of Institutions with Better Stewardship Disclosure at 2:00 p.m. on March 25, recognizing institutional investors ranked in the top 25% of the evaluation. The ceremony invited Deputy Director General Chung-Hao Huang of the Securities and Futures Bureau, Financial Supervisory Commission, to deliver remarks and present the awards, and was also attended by representatives from the competent authority and members of the Stewardship Principles Advisory Committee.

In her remarks, TWSE President Edith Lee stated that as institutional investors’ influence on listed companies continues to grow, enterprises are placing greater emphasis on engagement and communication with investors. In recent years, the TWSE has promoted the Corporate Value Enhancement (Power Up) Plan and is planning to launch version 2.0, encouraging enterprises to strengthen medium- to long-term strategic planning and enhance information transparency and market trust. In addition, through its subsidiary, the Taiwan Index Plus Corporation, the TWSE has established the IR Engagement platform to facilitate two-way dialogue between institutional investors and enterprises; more than 800 listed companies have already participated. Going forward, the TWSE will continue to work with institutional investors and the competent authority to deepen engagement mechanisms, strengthen corporate governance and capital market resilience, and enhance the international visibility of Taiwan’s capital market.

In his remarks, Deputy Director General Chung-Hao Huang of the Securities and Futures Bureau, Financial Supervisory Commission, stated that since the introduction of the Stewardship Principles for Institutional Investors in 2016, Taiwan has established a public evaluation mechanism through the TWSE to promote stewardship, and this year’s awards ceremony recognizes the efforts of institutional investors. In recent years, institutional investors in Taiwan have shown broader participation in stewardship and deeper engagement, with greater influence than before, showing three major trends in their efforts:

I. Institutional investors have become an important driving force for corporate governance

In recent years, the momentum behind corporate governance in Taiwan has come not only from enterprises’ own efforts to enhance governance, as well as guidance through relevant regulations and frameworks by the competent authority and the TWSE, but also from the increasingly important role played by institutional investors in stewardship, who have gradually become a key force in advancing the deepening of corporate governance.

II. Engagement approaches have become more diverse, and corporate dialogue mechanisms continue to deepen

In recent years, institutional investors have adopted more diverse approaches to promoting governance. In addition to strengthening interaction with enterprises through means such as collaborative engagement, they can also make use of the engagement platform launched by the TWSE to further facilitate communication and dialogue with companies.

III.  Engagement topics have expanded from governance to areas such as sustainability and human rights

Institutional investors’ areas of focus are no longer limited to traditional governance aspects such as board operations and audit committees, but have further extended to issues including sustainable development, supply chain management, and human rights, reflecting a broader scope of stewardship focus.

The TWSE hopes, through this awards ceremony, to recognize outstanding institutional investors for their commitment to stewardship, thereby promoting healthy competition and mutual learning among companies, and further encouraging institutional investors as a whole to enhance the standard of stewardship disclosure, strengthening the foundation of trust in the capital market and driving sustainable development momentum.
