Asian Asset Management Center (AAMC)

Taiwan Advances 31 Places in Global Financial Centres Ranking, Highlighting Growing International Recognition of AAMC Initiative

Two years into Taiwan’s Asian Asset Management Center (AAMC) initiative, the international competitiveness and visibility of Taiwan’s financial market have strengthened significantly. In the latest Global Financial Centres Index (GFCI), released by UK-based think tank Z/Yen Group on September 16, Taiwan (Taipei) rose from 73rd place in September 2024 to 42nd, moving up 31 places in just two years. The improvement reflects growing international recognition of Taiwan’s efforts to open its financial market, promote regulatory innovation, and strengthen global connectivity.

The GFCI is one of the world’s leading benchmarks for assessing the competitiveness of global financial centres. Compiled by Z/Yen Group, the index combines assessments from international financial professionals with quantitative indicators covering the business environment, human capital, infrastructure, financial sector development, and reputation. Taiwan’s rise in the rankings over the past two years highlights its growing profile in the global financial community.

This progress reflects the rapid transformation of Taiwan’s financial market over the past two years. Since the launch of the AAMC initiative, the Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC) has expanded opportunities for asset and wealth management through regulatory easing, the opening of new business areas, innovative pilot programs, and cross-border cooperation. Financial institutions have also increased investment in products, services, and talent, helping to build a more comprehensive asset management ecosystem. Taiwan’s strong industrial base and vibrant capital markets are increasingly serving as key drivers of its asset and wealth management industry.

At the same time, Taiwan has been actively strengthening its international engagement to raise global awareness of its financial market. Since the beginning of 2026, the Taiwan Stock Exchange (TWSE) has promoted Taiwan’s capital market, industrial strengths, and AAMC initiative to international investors and financial institutions through global forums, research, and overseas outreach. In September, TWSE Chairman Sherman Lin led a delegation to London for the Taiwan Financial Briefing Forum, where he highlighted the resilience, industrial strengths, and innovative momentum of Taiwan’s capital market and explored opportunities to deepen cooperation with global asset managers.

Taiwan’s significant rise in the rankings over the past two years reflects meaningful progress in the internationalization of its financial market. Looking ahead, the AAMC Promotion Office will continue to support market opening and regulatory innovation, strengthen international links in financial products, talent, and capital, and attract more global investors, financial institutions, and professionals to Taiwan. The TWSE will also continue to leverage its capital market platform and international connectivity to showcase not only Taiwan’s technological strengths, but also the investment value and asset management potential of its financial market. Through these efforts, Taiwan aims to build an Asian Asset Management Center with distinctive strengths and strong international competitiveness.
