Amended uptick rule adopted on October 24, 2022

Aimed at addressing local stock market volatility triggered by the conflict in Ukraine, aggressive rate hikes by the U.S. Federal Reserve and inflationary pressure, the Financial Supervisory Commission announced an amended uptick rule (the Rule) for the Taiwan Stock Exchange and Taipei Exchange on October 21, 2022.

When a stock of listing companies or a Taiwan Depositary Receipt shows a decline of 3.5 percent or more in the previous trading day, it cannot be short sold below the previous day’s closing price.  The Rule remains in effect for the stock or TDR that continues to fall by 3.5 percent or more on the following trading day. The original uptick rule was triggered when a stock declined 10 percent in the previous trading day.
