TWSE explores collaboration opportunities and promotes Taiwan capital market in Japan

To build trust with institutional investors, in early April the Director General of the Securities and Futures Bureau (SFB), Mr. Chen-Shan Chang, and TWSE Chairman, Mr. Sherman H.M. Lin, had one-on-one discussions with five crucial Japanese institutional investors, including investment banks, asset management companies, and prominent securities firms. The TWSE delegation introduced the Taiwan stock fundamentals, dividend yield strength, and the latest ESG developments to increase the Taiwan capital market's attractiveness. They also shared three key measures that the TWSE plans to take this year, such as cooperating with other market participants to build the ESG ecosystem, further promoting the Taiwan Innovation Board, and adjusting the listed company industry classification system. Besides, the visit aimed to understand institutional investors’ individual needs towards Taiwan-related products and services. These meetings provided an opportunity for the TWSE to collect investors' feedback towards the Taiwan capital market.

The TWSE and Taiwan Index Plus Corporation (TIP) participated in the 15th Annual Japan ETF Conference, a significant ETF annual event hosted by S&PDJI in Asia, where the TWSE participated in the "Global Market Initiatives" panel with KRX, HKEx, ASX, sharing the latest Taiwan ETF investment to the world. The Taiwan ETF asset value grew 11% in 2022, hitting a record high of NTD2.3 trillion, while the global ETF asset value in 2022 decreased by 10% from that of 2021. In the future, the TWSE plans to expand its ETF product lines and issue more ESG-related products to fuel the Taiwan ETF market growth.

The TWSE and the TIP also explored future collaboration opportunities with S&PDJI and promote the latest developments in the Taiwan capital market and indexed investments to Japanese institutional investors. This was the TWSE's second institutional investor visit this year and the first trip for TWSE and TIP to co-promote Taiwan indices and information services overseas.

During the visit, the TWSE also had a meeting with the new JPX Group CEO, sharing the latest Japan and Taiwan market developments to enhance their friendship. In 2023, the TWSE plans to have two one-on-one meetings with sovereign funds, pension funds, and more institutional investors, and host four investment events in Malaysia, New York, London and more to deepen the long-term relationship with key foreign institutional investors.
