The award ceremony for the 12th corporate governance evaluation was a success

The Taiwan Stock Exchange Corporation (TWSE), along with the Taipei Exchange (TPEx), held the award ceremony for the 12th Corporate Governance Evaluation at 2:00 p.m. today (May 26), recognizing listed companies ranked in the top 5% of the 12th Corporate Governance Evaluation, those in the top 5% with a market capitalization of NT$5 billion to NT$10 billion, as well as those in the top 1% with a market capitalization of less than NT$5 billion. Financial Supervisory Commission Chairperson Jin-Lung Peng was invited to deliver remarks and present the awards, together with representatives from the competent authority and securities-related organizations.

TWSE Chairperson Sherman Lin stated in his remarks that a total of 1,810 TWSE/TPEx-listed companies were evaluated this year, of which 50 TWSE-listed companies and 40 TPEx-listed companies ranked in the top 5%. In addition, 15 companies (7 TWSE-listed and 8 TPEx-listed companies) have remained in the top 5% for 12 consecutive years, reflecting their long-term commitment to corporate governance excellence and setting an example for the capital market.

Chairperson Lin further noted that since the launch of the Corporate Governance Evaluation in 2014, the mechanism has guided TWSE/TPEx-listed companies to strengthen corporate governance practices and enhance sustainable development.

In response to international sustainability trends, the TWSE officially transitioned the Corporate Governance Evaluation into the ESG Evaluation in 2026, restructuring the original four evaluation aspects into three ESG dimensions—Environmental (E), Social (S), and Governance (G).

On the environmental dimension, biodiversity and natural carbon sink strategies have been incorporated alongside continued carbon reduction initiatives. On the social dimension, measures including family-friendly workplace practices, human rights due diligence, and investment in innovative startups have also been incorporated into the evaluation indicators. On the governance dimension, companies are encouraged to appoint a Chief Sustainability Officer, adopt the SASB Standards, and implement third-party assurance to enhance disclosure quality and decision-making reliability.

To further strengthen investor communication and support fair market valuation through enhanced disclosures, the evaluation also encourages companies to implement corporate value enhancement measures, with additional weighting awarded for stronger practices.

Financial Supervisory Commission Chairperson Jin-Lung Peng stated that the Corporate Governance Evaluation is highly competitive and rigorous, as many indicators require substantial resources and long-term commitment beyond formal compliance. Therefore, companies that consistently achieve outstanding results are particularly commendable. He further noted that the overall evaluation results reflect the continuous improvement of corporate governance standards across industries.

Chairperson Peng also emphasized that sound corporate governance enhances decision-making efficiency, strengthens risk management, increases social trust, and attracts long-term capital. He added that the transition from the Corporate Governance Evaluation to the ESG Evaluation is intended to encourage companies to assume broader sustainability responsibilities. The competent authority will continue to promote a fair, transparent, and comprehensive evaluation framework to further enhance corporate governance standards.

Finally, Chairperson Peng stated that “award recognition is not only an honor, but also a responsibility,” expressing his expectation that companies will continue to strengthen governance practices and contribute to industrial development, thereby further enhancing the resilience of Taiwan’s capital market.

The TWSE and TPEx stated that the award ceremony aims to recognize companies with outstanding corporate governance performance and promote mutual learning as well as broader adoption of best practices across the market, thereby fostering a culture of sustainability in Taiwan’s capital market.
